Apple Watch 2 Swimming – A must-have upgrade to the new watch that make a pleasing improvement to the Apple is the addition of swim workout tracking and 50-meter water resistance. There is limited usefulness with the previous version of Apple Watch as it lacks built-in swim tracking features though using it in the water won’t cause issues without the water resistance capability. To help track your progress, there are new Open Water Swim and Pool Swim workouts features on the Apple Watch Series 2 with new seals and gaskets suitable for swimming. Let’s take it for some swims in a pool to find out how well does the new Apple Watch work.
Apple Watch 2 Swimming: Getting Started
There are a range of different goals available for each exercise to choose from with both new open water and pool swim workout options managed in the same exercises app as other forms of exercise. You will be asked to enter the length of the pool you want to swim in as you start a pool swim workout from the Apple Watch. You can put in a custom length as needed or choose the common U.S. 25 yards default value. You can alter between meters and yards with a hard press on the screen of Apple Watch 2 Swimming. You will also need to set your goal for the workout. You can just set an open goal or choose between time, calories torched, or distance by swipe right and left on the watch.
Apple Watch 2 Swimming: Pool Swimming
You can start moving once you’ve selected your pool length and exercises goal. You will be given a three-second countdown after you push the Start button on the watch to start swimming. There are four different metrics displayed by default including active calories burned, workout duration, distance and laps completed. But, you can customize the display to replace a few of them with other options including overall calories burned, average pace, and heart rate. To avoid the touch sensing to get interfered by water that causes accidental taps, the Apple Watch screen automatically locks once the exercise begins.
Apple Watch 2 Swimming: Open Water Swimming
The Workout app also allows open water swims tracking. Apple Watch 2 Swimming works in an identical way to pool exercise that you can set an open goal, a distance, time, or calories. You can customize the metrics from your iPhone but you can keep them to the default to the active calories, duration, total calories torched, heart rate, distance and average pace. Your calories burned are tracked with the accelerometer while your location and speed is tracked with GPS as long as you are using a freestyle stroke.
